Biography: Emily De Thoux was the sister of George Harris. For a long time, she was the only family he had left, and the only one who loved him. However, Mr. Harris, their master, beat Emily just to torment George, and then sold her. Emily was bought by a kind man that fell in love with him. The two had a daughter twelve years before the novel's end, but her name is never revealed. Near the end of the book, Emily, now married to a decease Monsieur de Thoux, boards a ship to Kentucky. This just happens to be the same ship that George Shelby has boarded. The two end up talking about the area near George's home, and then Emily decides to get tactful. She asks if a slave owner by the name of Mr. Harris lives there. When she finds that the answer is yes, she asks after her brother, and finds that he has escaped from his tyrannical master. Emily is delighted, and so she tells George Shelby about George Harris's true identity, and suddenly the two are talking about Eliza. Needless to say, Emily is taken completely by surprise when Cassy, who was also on the ship, suddenly passes out beside her. When Cassy awakes, she tells Emily that Eliza is her daughter, so the two travel to Canada, after parting ways with the young Mr. Shelby. As soon as she sees her brother, Emily screams out that she is George's sister. She is soon a part of the family, and moves with them first to Europe, and then to Africa in the pursuit of slavery's abolition.
